A little humorous now, or maybe not. First you have to exterminate all infidels, whatever faith you are in, personally I have an unknown faith. So there you go. Then exterminate all the undesirables for me is racial and ethno traits. Now we can dance - create a faith where the only enemy is demons, and the only task of people, to find knowledge in the universe. Here we have created a world without wars, with humanity striving for infinite development. Demons may not be, but the knowledge can search forever. People are united and so until the end of time. So much for the golden mean?

Why would we turn into animals without religion?

Religion was essentially needed to instill some kind of morality in the wild and semi-wild people of the ancient world, but it didn't succeed in that. In the civilized world education is quite good at it. Of course if it has a place.

Faith without fanaticism is the golden mean.

And why do you dislike animals so much! Moral and ethical standards are dictated by human society regardless of religion! All morality is based on prohibitions! And ethics has one golden rule: As it goes, so it goes! If a group of people intends to survive, it has to comply with the requirements dictated by morals. This is natural and logical! And religion is just a part of society Just the part which should be forced to do good and right based on fear of punishment In biblical times it was the overwhelming part naturally So religion as a means of survival was the only way for this very survival.

A person must consciously choose a religion. The one that Jesus founded and that is based on love for God and neighbor.
