To the left of the Trinity Gate is the Arsenal building. It was founded by Peter the Great in 1701 to store military weapons and equipment. Besides it was supposed to be a museum of military glory: the tsar issued a decree about the collection of copper and iron canons and all kinds of military insignia obtained in battles against foreign invaders. The building began to be erected by architects X. Konrad and D. Ivanov, but during the Northern War, construction was suspended and completed only in the 80s of the XVIII century by engineer Gerard. Along the walls of the Arsenal there are Russian guns of XVI-XVII centuries, which were moved here in 1960 from the Armory.
