Dogs have memories that last a lifetime! Of course the comparison is different but still: my dog as a puppy had a best friend after some time the owner died and he stayed on the street and they picked him up but since then they have not seen each other for 5 years and he remembers him if you say his name, my dog lifts his ears and looks around and still remembers him!

An animal loves someone who loves him and takes care of him. At one time I picked up a little kitten and after 3 weeks had to leave I gave the kitten to my mom for 3 weeks. When I got back days counting when I saw my pet and when I finally came to get her my sweetheart did not react to me. Calmly went about his cat business because during this time has managed to get his own party and made friends with her mother's cats. She did not miss me at all. And you know I had no idea to leave her mom put her in a carrier and took her home.
