It all makes sense - the battery has leaked what you called an oily liquid . wipe the inside of the camera with a cloth. The oily liquid is the electrolyte which has poured out - very bad optimistic prognosis that the contacts inside the camera have oxidized then you should scratch them with something - even a nail file.
