My son and his girlfriend want the same thing. The only thing we persuaded them to do is to have their parents present at the registry office. All the other activities with guests will be just like a check-in Generally newlyweds have the right to decide what will be their wedding: or in leather jackets on motorcycles or a-la-style 60's or scuba diving at the bottom of the Arctic Ocean. It's their party! Let it be memorable for them!

That's what people used to do about 60 years ago. They got married in the registry office on a weekday after work, and then celebrated on the next day off. Maybe they had a registration of some kind, and the registrar was the Komsomol secretary or the head of the class.
