Your idea of a portrait is very good. But technically it's not done right. Look, your hair and the hair of the doggie blend in. You should have used some extra light to make a distinction, and it looks crumpled and not expressive at all, with the wonderful inner energy that comes from you and your pet. Good luck!

Look at the picture! What catches your eye and constantly attracts attention is the nose of the dog. He climbed out to the center of meaning - and the main thing here is a man. The frame is overbalanced on the right.Line it vertically and much will change. And of course the flash on the forehead is the worst thing in the picture, it's not a portrait lens, but I could be wrong.
