If you believe in the transmigration of souls. I guess. And this way you'll just have someone to take your mind off of. A distraction?

I don't think so.

Might just brighten and fill some of the void.

No one can ever make up for the loss of a loved one. It's just that over time, the pain becomes less acute.

Unless it's temporary reincarnations.

maybe it gives you a chance to switch from your personal feelings to something else - to take care of your neighbor, even a voiceless being, because whatever happens - you are needed! As you are. And your love and tenderness will help another being not to get lost and not to get lost in this big world

No! Not the pet of a loved one or the human of a lost pet! I've felt it firsthand! And so and so. And believe me time will not heal the wounds of the soul!

No animal can make up for the loss of a loved one-it's such a grief that sometimes it seems impossible to survive grieve-grieve, but if there's an animal, it's a little easier to get over them-dogs cats hamsters, etc. so sensitive that it is not clear who pities whom.
