Apparently the name "camera" came from camera obscura dark room, over time the camera became more complicated, the emergence of various mechanisms in the design led to the appearance of the term apparatus. This is of course a subjective opinion, correct me if anything.

That's how one likes it. Some people call a camera a photocamera a camera. To me a camera isn't a camera, it's what you shoot with it. In the wrong hands, both Hassel and Leica is a camera. I want to put in a photo of one of the leading photographers, but I will not, after all, two children.

the camera has different levers, cogs, mirrors. But the camera has no mechanics. there's only a black cloth to cover it, a drawer with a magnifying glass, and a lid. to take a picture, the operator takes it off, passes it around and puts the lid back on. that's the camera drawer

changing the place of the syllables doesn't change the sum.

the camera is a boy. the camera is a girl.

One of the meanings of the word CAMERA is a device, an important part of which is a closed cavity and in turn one of the meanings of the word APPARATE is a mechanism or a complicated device. I think there is no mistake in both cases. Whether you call it a photographic device or a photographic apparatus, anyone would understand. However, in the standards GOSTs, etc. did not meet the term PHOTO CAMERA only PHOTOAPARAT.
