Corticosterone is an insignificant and relatively inactive glucocorticoid hormone of the human adrenal cortex. In the rat, however, corticosterone is the major and most active glucocorticoid, similar to cortisol in humans Compared with cortisol, it has appreciable, although much weaker, mineralocorticoid activity than aldosterone
