Soldier and guard duties must know by heart

Not all of them, but some paragraphs and definitions by heart.

Oh, soldier, thou that art in the service, readest the statute when thou goest to sleep, and when thou art awake, readest the statute again.

Response from 0[+++++]
Obliged. This is the army.

No, that's nonsense. No one can memorize that much.

By heart you need to know the vital articles of some regulations, so that at a critical moment clear wording emerges from your memory, not vague associations of right and wrong. The life of a soldier and his unit depends on it. And instructions on combat work in general should be practiced to automatism, so that the brain does not even turn on, and everything was executed at the level of instincts.
