In 1984, near Lake Turkana in Kenya, the remains of an ancient man about a million and a half years old, about 160 cm tall, were found. When looked at more closely, it turned out to be the skeleton of an eight-year-old boy, so in popular literature this find is often referred to as the Turkana boy or the Turkana boy. And when we looked even more closely, it turned out that this boy most likely died of blood poisoning caused by a mandibular abscess. Nowadays, any decent dentist can treat such an abscess, often even without removing a tooth.
