Try to memorize by yourself ready-made phrases on topics from phrasebooks and buy a dictionary of the most common words and learn them. The grammar have to cushion with someone at least the basics and you'll understand everything and speak more or less. I myself have learned so and feel at ease on vacation in foreign travel. I myself learned to speak correctly and build sentences it is a long learning process and a big personal desire and incentive. good luck?
