Latimeria was actually found, as correctly noted here. We have it in the Paleontological Museum. It's so thick, so cute! I haven't heard in paleontology classes that there wasn't a gradual transition! Actually, half of the stratigraphy is based on fossils. So in evolution it's hard to answer all questions at once.
