If the computer is new and the operating system is normal, then no more than 1 time per month if the machine is old, preferably 1 time per week.

If your computer is new, start immediately and preferably at least once a month or you won't get defragmentation at all. You won't be able to defragment at all.

If you have a system on NTFS, you don't need to defragment at all. it just doesn't make sense. If your system is FAT32 it means you have Vyn98. a very old system, on very old hardware. maybe it's time to buy a new one. Youn 2000 and XP must be NTFS. if not, think about it.
