All ficus species like a bright but sunny location, regular watering in spring and summer moderately, in autumn and winter limited, moist air and frequent sprinkling. Between waterings ficus need to let the soil dry out a little avoiding overdrying the root ball, otherwise the stagnant moisture will drop the leaves. In dry air and lack of light ficuses can also lose their leaves, species with green leaves are more tolerant of shade, variegated more light-loving. Most ficuses grow all year round at room temperature; for ficuses with green leaves, a temperature decrease to 16 degrees Celsius in winter is important, too cold ground will result in leaf drop. Ficuses need to be protected from drafts and cold air, two other causes of leaf loss. If necessary, transplant ficuses in the spring of young plants every year, older than 5 years - in 2 years, old cajuns - in 3-4 years. Substrate is made up of equal parts of compost or humus, turf, peat and sand, for large woody specimens increase the proportion of turf soil. In summer, ficuses need fertilization with mineral and organic fertilizers alternately 1 every 2 weeks. Pruning the shoots in most species of ficus leads to branching. All ficuses multiplied semi-tree cuttings - with cuttings washed off the milky juice and rooted in the sand or water at 25-30 degrees. If the air is too dry, ficuses become infested with pests: scale, mealy bug, spider mite, thrips.
