Maybe really if this is the first fotik that is worth to practice them to see how much and how you'll work them and decide whether so you need a DSLR. If so, the next year to convince the man that you have outgrown the washing machine SLR you just need! And this alone will give someone. And in the end is really more expensive attention than the gift!
