KV are relay contacts, and they are normally closed. if the bar is on the bottom, they are normally open.

This is the normally open contact of a device that does not have an electromagnetic actuator. -such as a limit switch

Probably referring to rotary switches, they are still used in some postwar houses. They used to have two on a circuit sometimes to turn on the chandelier from two places in the room.
