pure polyethylene emits very little real harmful substances when heated, no more than melted paraffin in candles. It will not harm your hands, but it is not advisable to drink such water.

If the bag heats up faster than the water, it has a chance to melt! And all the kefir will be in the water. The bottom heats up MUCH more to 150-200 degrees than what's above it. They were telling on the news that any plastic exudes plastic dust as well, although not much at all. Definitely, it's harmful.

Polyethylene is inert and safe, the paint on the bag is not good, and the right or useful answer is often banned by fools.
