There was not such a terrible onslaught of atheism in Europe as there was in Russia. The habit, desire, and even ability to celebrate Christmas was beaten out of us, I believe. Our generation and our parents' generation did not celebrate Christmas any more; they found a good replacement for it. But for some reason we do celebrate Easter. And with what pleasure, for me it is a real holiday. Why? Yes! Perhaps it depends on which holiday first. In Europe it's Christmas first, in Europe it's New Year's Eve. Everyone gets drunk first, and then a week later you're not strong enough?
