you need to become a Muscovite fanatic and take an upper-category auto locksmith course. Then disappear to the garage without a trace for 2 years. then maybe it will work better.

That depends on what it means to be better. A well-tuned UZAM is basically a good motor. First, check if the throttles in the carburetor are fully open when the pedal is fully depressed. You can put the ignition with a hall sensor, it makes the engine more stable. If you want more volume - change crankshaft for 80 and pistons for 85, you will get 1700cm. 85hp has 85mm pistons for a 66mm shaft will be 1600cm 80hp. The liners are bored to 85 with no problems. Put Solex carburetor, also clean intake passages in head and intake manifold from inside. If you are going to change pistons, pay special attention to their weight. Find more exact scales and adjust weights. Moskvich motor is revolving, and weight distribution suffers, therefore its opportunities are not used to the utmost.

Install contactless ignition clean and adjust the carburetor replace the spark plugs and in the wire. Put gearbox with 4 3 will get good dynamics. On the engine UZAM are so calledokraemokrye liners so from the base engine 1.5 easily done 1.7 can 1.8 and some craftsmen did even 2.0 Only under these engines have to remake the cooling system.
