In 1912, the centennial of Napoleon's expulsion was widely celebrated in Moscow. For the anniversary, culinary experts prepared a new cake - a puff pastry with cream, made in the form of a triangle, in which Napoleon's famous triangular hat was supposed to be seen. The pastry quickly became known as Napoleon and was universally acclaimed?

This question was already asked in one of the French-Russian forums. And there were two versions. So, the 1st version: this cake was invented in 1912 by Moscow confectioners to the centennial of the expulsion of the French army from Russia. And according to 2, it was invented by Napoleon by mere chance, when Josephine caught him sitting on a decent distance from one of his ladies-in-waiting. So, in his defense, Napoleon said that he told her the recipe for the cake he had invented, and he had to invent this recipe at random, after which it became the property of Versailles. Versions are versions. You just have to choose the one that appeals to you most!

I think it's because originally it had 12 layers, and Napoleon came to us in 1812.
